  • Culturally Relevant Filmmaking +

We maintain a commitment to creating culturally relevant videography projects based on the spoken word poetry of our students. These projects take a variety of shapes depending on the request of students and service sites:

    • On campus youth filmed short poetry films

    • Youth edited high quality poetry films

    • Professionally filmed and student assisted high quality poetry films

    • Documentaries of the creative process

    • Documentaires of special events for community based organizations

  • Collaborative Styling +
Each film is stylized by the artist and student collaborators to create a visual background relevant to the topic and culture presented in each poem. Music and camera angles add their own thread to the multi sensory tapestry woven from the hands of today’s youth.
  • Potent Expressions +
The short narrative film allows for potent encapsulations of expression to be embedded in the current digital dialogue. Both poets and filmmakers become culture bearers as living archives of visceral and transformative stories.
  • Indentity, Creativity, Culture +
Documentary projects seek to focus a spotlight on the intersection of identity, creativity and culture where empowered young voices speak up on behalf of historically marginalized communities. These films bring the viewer to a front row seat where they can witness the life span of a poem from brainstorm, to page, to stage.
