About Educators for Empathy

Bay Area Creative's Educators for Empathy program is an innovation in professional development. Each service we provide consists of: one part writing workshop, one part study in practicum and curriculum and one part creative journey of self-discovery. We provide seminars and training in creating classroom culture, social emotional learning and culturally relevant curriculum development.

Services

  • These seminars lead participants through a three module creative process where they 1) Master a step by step process for creating a safe classroom culture that embraces personal sharing, 2) Learn exercises to lead students in creatively describing their experiences with emotionally challenging situations 3) Gain experience in basing curriculum and discussion on student's creative writing.

The seminars provide participants with a renewed sense of self confidence and the tools to lead others through the process of claiming personal identity.

  • We lead teachers through various enjoyable exercises that they can use in the classroom in order to understand how their students identities are reflective of their cultural background. Once teachers have gained this understanding they are able to create a learning environment where students’ lived experiences are woven into each lesson.
  • We offer training in order to make these curricula accessible to your facilitators regardless of their prior educational and artistic experience. Our packages are intended for participants ages 8 to 25 for mixed age, mixed gender, age specific or gender specific groups.

Evaluations
Each of our programs culminate with a reflection period that includes a survey for participants to provide feedback on how the seminar met their needs and fulfilled the objectives of the Educators for Empathy program. Participants are also given an evaluation survey to complete after they have utilized these exercises with their students or employees.
